Imagine the thrill of traversing rugged terrains, surrounded by awe-inspiring natural beauty, and finally arriving at the edge of a live volcano. That's precisely the adventure my boyfriend Marc and I embarked on during our recent trip to Iceland. Join us as we recount our exhilarating six-hour hike to witness the raw power and mesmerizing beauty of an active volcano.

Iceland, known as the "Land of Fire and Ice," is a geological wonderland teeming with volcanic activity. Its dramatic landscapes, with glaciers and volcanoes side by side, create an otherworldly atmosphere. Our destination was Fagradalsfjall, a live volcano situated on the Reykjanes Peninsula.

An adventure of this magnitude requires meticulous preparation. We made sure to pack essential hiking gear, our sturdy boots, weather-appropriate clothing, backpacks filled with food and water, camera equipment, and a reliable map of the area. Safety was paramount, so we equipped ourselves with a first aid kit and headlamps even though it does not get that dark due to midnight sun theres some darker areas on the trek due to shadows. We also additionally packed 2 face mask with P3 filters, to ensure a smooth and safe hike. not forgetting the dangers.

With our spirits high and backpacks ready, we set off on our epic journey. The path unfolded before us, revealing Iceland's captivating natural wonders. The landscape transitioned from moss-covered lava fields to craggy cliffs, immersing us in the untamed beauty of this remote wilderness.

As we ventured deeper into the Icelandic wilderness, we were greeted by the harmonious sounds of nature. The gentle rustle of the wind, the distant calls of seabirds, and the occasional thunderous roar of cascading waterfalls from glazier from a distance, created an enchanting symphony that accompanied us throughout our hike.

After hours of trekking through the captivating challenging terrain, as you get closer you can smell the sulfur we caught our first glimpse of Fagradalsfjall. The sight was nothing short of awe-inspiring. Bright red lava flowed from the volcano's crater, casting an ethereal glow over the surroundings. The ground trembled beneath our feet, reminding us of the immense power simmering within the Earth's core at times it sounded like glass breaking, then other times it would be the sound of boiling hot water. Marc and I could not believe how bright lava is it was mesmerizing.

We carefully approached a vantage point that offered a safe view of the volcanic spectacle. I would like to add even these safe points can turn deadly, Marc and I went to a private lava show and we spoke to a Volcanologist Jobark, and learned a lot of the dangers. (do some research). The molten lava danced and twisted, painting the sky with vibrant hues of orange and red. The intense heat and the smell of sulfur added to the immersive experience, making us feel like witnesses to the Earth's primal forces.

As the sun began hovers below the horizon never reaching full darkness as we went during the time of midnight sun, we were treated to a breathtaking display of colours. The interplay between the fiery lava and the soft hues of the sun created a stunning visual symphony. We couldn't resist capturing this magical moment through our cameras, ensuring that the memories would be etched in our hearts forever.

We reluctantly bade farewell to the live volcano, knowing that it was time to begin our journey back. The hike back gave us a chance to reflect on the sheer magnificence of the experience we had just encountered. We felt humbled and grateful for the opportunity to witness nature's grandeur up close. We will never forget.
